Abstract:

The talk will introduce our Virtual Collaborative Environment (VCE) which is intended for supporting applications of 3D geometrical modelling in the field of human medicine. Planning of a complex surgery (plastic surgery, orthopedy, maxillofacial surgery, neurosurgery etc.) may be a very technicaly challenging and time-consuming task. It has been shown that 3D computer geometry modeling can be used to simplify this task in several ways (implants design, surgery planing, navigation, training etc.) and improve quality of the surgery. The Virtual Collaborative Environment, that will be demonstrated, can be used to discuss and finalize a surgery preparation or custom-made implants in a remote way (even on long distances between towns and countries). The VCE system allows to upload CT/MRI image data in the DICOM format and 3D tissue models which have been prepared in advance. A 3D scene containing both type of data is shared between technicians and medical doctors, so the surgery can be discussed. Such cooperation is necessary especially in interdisciplinary and complicated cases. The Virtual Collaborative Enviroment is based on a three layer client-server architecture. Communication between the server and client applications (3D graphical client) is done through the HTTPS protocol, over a standard internet....
